Up France II France III

French Heraldry has been basically self-assumed. Titles were also often assumed by several members of the same noble Family, perhaps with the exception of the titles of Duke who were Pairs de France. So, it may be useful to visit: François Velde's scholarly and excellent site on French Heraldry

The blazoning and notes notes below were kindly provided by F. Velde, to whom the editors wish to express their gratitude for his valuable contribution.

Notes, by F. Velde: «... the crown is a traditional count's crown, dating the ex-libris after 1814. Jean-Denis Lanjuinais (1753-1827) was a professor of canon law in Rennes when he was elected to the Estates General in 1789, then to the Convention, and to the Anciens. Made a senator in 1800, he voted against the life consulate for Bonaparte and against the imperial title in 1804, but was nevertheless made a count in 1808. The Restoration made him a count-peer in 1814.
His eldest son Paul-Eugene (1799-1872) suceeded his father at the House of Peers. His grandson Paul-Henri, comte Lanjuinais (b. 1834), was a representative from Brittany for decades».
