French Heraldry has been basically self-assumed. Titles were also often assumed by several members of the same noble Family, perhaps with the exception of the titles of Duke who were Pairs de France. So, it may be useful to visit: François Velde's scholarly and excellent site on French Heraldry

Blazoning: Beauvau-Craon, Argent four lions gules two and two, armed, langued and crowned or.

Jean-Baptiste Treilhard (1742-1810), attrib. (F. Velde)

Notes: the canton is that of comtes conseillers d'Etat, and the toque is that of a count of the Empire (Napoleon I). The same author says that the bearer was probalbly Jean-Baptiste Treilhard (1742-1810) - the prominent politician during the French Revolution, who contributed greatly to the drafting of the Napoleonic code. His son was Achille-Liberal Treilhard (1785-1855)(F. Velde).

Fréderic de Maussion-Tertu

Blazoning: De Maussion, Azure a chevron between two mullets in chief or and a cypress tree of the last on a mound argent.(Family from the Maine region, ennobled early 18th c., still extant. Valette)(F. Velde).
